The Danish coach, Jakob Vestergaard, talks about the game that will decide Group D.
Top of the table clash in Viborg
After an easy home win against Metz, Viborg can prepare for the main round.
On Saturday, the first place of Group D will be decided when Krim Ljuljana will be visiting. After a 38-34 home win in the autumn, the Slovenian champions are the only team that defeated the Danes this season. The Viborg players want to take revenge for this and they will be going for the group victory as well.
Eurohandball.com talks to Viborg head coach, Jakob Vestergaard.
Eurohandball.com: The main round was secured against Metz.
Jakob Vestergaard: We played a fine first half there. Good counter attacks and a strong defence gave us the lead and then we could even spare some of the players.
Eurohandball.com: The group victory will be decided against Krim on Saturday. How do you prepare?
Jakob Vestergaard: We want to take revenge and we are really looking forward to that. Krim are a very strong team, a real “tournament team”, and we have talked a lot already about the problems we had in Ljubljana. I hope we found the solutions, but we will see it on the court.
Eurohandball.com: You said earlier also the second ranked teams in the groups will be very strong. How important is the group victory then?
Jakob Vestergaard: No doubt that if you can get the first place in your group, your road to the semi-finals will be easier. We are very determined to take the first place.
On the other hand, Krim are really strong and I’m sure that many paid even more attention to them after we lost there.
I think Andrea Lekic is leading their game very well, but I hope that we can take the first place in Viborg Stadionhal.
