Elda coach Diana Box talks to Eurohandball.com about her great start with the team, the winning mentality and her expectations from the CL.
Winning mentality of Diana Box
The great fighting spirit and a winning mentality characterised Box as a player. She implanted both of them into her team.
In her very first season as a coach, her team reached seven consecutive victories so far: six victories in the Spanish Championship and one in the Spanish Super Cup final. As a coach Diana Box has never been defeated.
Eurohandball.com: You started very well as a coach? What are the objectives of the club in the CL?
Diana Box: It is true that we had a good start in the Spanish Championship and also with winning the Spanish Super Cup at the beginning of the season. Our CL objective is to enter the court every game with a winning mentality – although we are aware of the quality of our opponents.
Eurohandball.com: You will travel for the first match of the CL to Montenegro. What do you know about Buducnost?
Diana Box: Our first rival will be a great team that will play at home, but our goal is simple: collect points that will take us to the next round. All my players know the importance of this match and I’m sure that they will give their best.
Eurohandball.com: Fraile and Carvalho did not play in the last match of the Spanish Championship. Both players are very important for you. Do you expect them to be ready for Saturday?
Diana Box: At this point I’m not sure whether they will be able to play. I hope one of them will be ready. Even without both of them I’m convinced that we have enough good players to replace them.
Eurohandball.com: You will play against Hypo and FCK in group B…
Diana Box: Both teams have many players for all positions – good players on international top level. Also those clubs have much bigger budget compared to Elda and also a more developed clubs structure. They are clear favourites. Nevertheless, it is certain that we will fight every match for our life, especially at home, knowing our potentials.
