A large part of the successful placement of the EHF Champions League on the market is down to an extensive TV coverage. EHF Marketing GmbH has set this as a prime objective.
EHF Champions League TV coverage wider than ever!
Vienna, 09.10.2008 – Handball fans across Europe have already had their first taster of EHF Champions League handball and the second match day is underway. The 2008/2009 EHF Champions League season will bring with it a spectrum of new initiatives which accentuate the product palette even further.
TV Coverage
Since the launch of the refreshed EHF Champions League two season’s ago, the product has continued to pick up momentum. A large part of the successful placement on the market is down to the extensive TV coverage of this top European club competition each match day. EHF Marketing GmbH, has set this as a prime objective and sees it as being a “must” for the further development of the EHF Champions League and the sport in general. Peter Vargo, EHF Marketing Managing Director underlines this approach, “The TV market is extremely competitive and we are up against many other top class sporting products, but we feel we are moving in the right direction. We see it as our duty to bring the EHF Champions League to as many people as possible; the market reactions are positive and show that we are achieving the results we are seeking. This season, EHF Marketing has signed and extended contracts with SVT (SWE), TVE (ESP), TV3 (ESP), A1 (MKD), Sport 1 (LTU), NTV+ (RUS), NOVA TV (GRE), RTS (SRB) and STV (SVK) which are in addition to already active and existing contracts. We have also been successful in expanding the coverage to the Middle Eastern market; the Dubai Sports Channel will be broadcasting the competition over the next two seasons.”
EHF Champions League on Eurosport
Eurosport has also intensified its coverage of the Champions League. This season will see a top match of the week on Sundays at 17:30 (CET) with interviews, preliminary reports and insider stories. This is additional to other matches.
EHF Champions League Show
In addition to this, the viewers are treated to a new addition to the TV compendium, a brand new EHF Champions League Show. The EHF Champions League Show is offered to all TV partners and is a 26 minute long round-up of the action, with exclusive stories about the key personalities of the competition.
ehfTV.com
In line with the strategy of continually expanding TV coverage, the EHF has launched a new streaming platform at ehfTV.com. This will bring the Champions League to more people than ever before. There will be three top matches streamed live at www.ehfTV.com each week and all CL matches will be available to download on a delayed basis. This is all free of charge and streamed to a high quality. Uwe Schwenker, EHF Marketing Men’s Club Board Chairman welcomes this initiative, “With this initiative we are delivering top level club handball to a wider audience and that is the key to ensure the further growth of this high-profile competition.”
