Elda win Spanish Super Cup trophy

It was a great beginning for new coach Diana Box. After many trophies won in the colours of Elda and of the Spanish national team, the former line player won the Spanish Super Cup at her first official match as a coach.

In front of 900 spectators in Elda, the home team defeated Sagunto by 25:22 (15:10).

The match started with 3:1 and 6:3 Elda lead. Sagunto did not have a remedy for Elda’s aggressive defence so the home team closed the first half with 15:10.

In the second half Elda continued in the same rhythm. Without important injured players, the team of Cristina Mayo could not keep pace with the hosts and soon the result was 22:16. At that point the victory was already decided. Sagunto managed to decrease the margin for the final result of the match 25:22.

Tivadar and Soit scored 5 goals each, 4 goals scored Fraile and Carvalho.

In Sagunto team Danilovic scored 6 goals.

Despite the clear victory, coach Diana Box thinks her team still have a lot to work:

“I’m happy. We won because of my players and our fans. I have to say that we still have a lot of space for improvement. And we have a lot of work to do, especially in the pivot position where we have two new players. But we have enough time, so I’m not worried. The most important is that we continue to work hard and improve our form with every match.”

Defending the Spanish title

On 13 September Elda will start a new season in the Spanish League ABF. In the first round they will travel to Las Palmas where they’ll meet the team of Elda’s former players, Tanja Dajcman and Natalia Martynenko.
