Koper win first title, Celje third

The four best Slovenian clubs of last season fought for first title the season, the Super Cup. Cimos Koper's victory is not a surprise.

Koper are determined to leave their mark in Europe this seasonBut it was a big surprise when Trimo Trebnje defeated Slovenian champions in the semi-final. Celje Pivovarna Lasko that won the Super Cup last year were far from a great form. Trimo Trebnje were leading almost all time, Celje got initiative only in first part of second half (the only time they had the lead was the 38th minute at 18:17).

Celje were without their goalkeeper Gorazd Skof who spent the whole weekend in a hotel room ill with an allergy. The others were out of form and Celje lost by 24:27.

The next day they met Gorenje for the third place that lost against Cimos Koper in the other semi-final.

Celje almost lost again. Ivica Obrvan's Gorenje showed a better and more efficient handball. However, in the last seven minutes Gorenje could not score and gave the victory away.

The victory of Koper in the final was never in doubt. Trimo Trebnje had to play without their best players, Sebastjan Skube and Klemen Cehte. They were injured a day ago. Koper's Matjaž Brumen was top scorer and also MVP of the event. Darko Stanicć was the best goalkeeper.
