Handball world mourns death of Alexander Kozhukhov

It is with much heartfelt regret that the European Handball Federation has to share the deeply sad news of the death of Alexander Kozhukhov, known to many as Sasha. The news of Kozhukhov’s death came unexpectedly; he passed away at the age of 66. He dedicated his whole life to the sport of handball and will be remembered for his expertise, devotion and knowledge.

Alexander Kozhukhov was part of the European Handball Federation from its very foundation in 1991. He was previously Secretary General of the Russian Handball Federation, later becoming President. He was extremely active in the international handball circles – in 1980 he was elected onto the the IHF Commission of Organising and Competition and took over the Presidency of this Commission in 2004.

Tor Lian, EHF President mirrors the thoughts of many at this sad time, “The entire handball world is mourning the death of Sasha. He has left his mark on international handball and his lifetime work and dedication will not be forgotten. On behalf of the European Handball Federation I would like to send my sincere condolences to his family, friends, and the Russian Handball Union, which has lost a true handball pioneer.”

This loss for handball will be felt throughout the handball world. Thoughts and wishes go out to Kozhukhov’s family, friends and colleagues at this time.
