Match: Bosnia Herzegovina vs Hungary 

Appeal Case and verdict of EHF Decision of Body of 2nd Instance

Vienna, 17 July 2008 – Following an appeal filed by the federation Rukometni Savez Bosne I Hercegovine (see below) against an EHF decision of 1st Instance relating to the case: Bosnia Herzegovina vs Hungary, 2009 World Championship Play-offs Qualification EUROPE, the EHF Court of Appeal has now announced its verdict. The decision in the 1st legal Instance is rectified to state that Hungary is declared winner of the match.

Further to this, the Court of Appeal confirm the following decisions: due to the crowd disturbances during the match, the Organiser of the match – Rukometni Savez Bosne I Hercegovine – are fined a total €7500 and the next two official EHF national team matches within BIH territory must be played behind closed doors without spectators.

 

Official Statement II

Vienna, 20 June 2008 - The EHF Body of 1st Instance has dealt with the case and the decision was announced on Wednesday 18th June. As in accordance with the EHF Legal Procedure, the federation of Rukometni Savez Bosne I Hercegovine has filed an appeal. In the next step, the Chairman of the Court of Appeal will call together the deciding body and the case will be dealt with in the 2nd legal Instance. This process will commence immediately and the result of the proceedings will be published accordingly.

 

Official Statement I

Vienna, 18 June 2008 - The return leg of the play-off match of the Qualification Europe for the 2009 Men's World Championship in Croatia between Bosnia Herzegovina and Hungary took place on Saturday 14 June 2008 in front of a capacity crowd at the sports hall "Skenderija" in Sarajevo. Hungary won the first leg 27:25 on 7 June 2008 in Gyöngyös.

The match was stopped in the 49th minute due to a large number of objects thrown onto the playing field. Following failed attempts to address the public in order to continue the game, the game was abandoned. The result at the time of the abandonment of the match was 24:27 in favour of Hungary.

The EHF Body of 1st Instance has dealt with the case and has made the following decision. Hungary is declared winner of the match, with a final official result of 24:27 registered. As a consequence of this result and the result form the 1st leg match, Hungary has qualified for the 2009 Men’s World Championship.

Due to the crowd disturbances during the match, the Organiser of the match – Rukometni Savez Bosne I Hercegovine – has been fined a total €7500. Further to this, the next two official EHF national team matches within BIH territory must be played behind closed doors without spectators.

Rukometni Savez Bosne I Hercegovine has the right to file an appeal within 3 days.
