Speculations started after a TV interview by the coach.
Serdarusic to leave Kiel?
The tears are dried up and the team prepare for the next match, which will also be a decisive one. Just days after losing the Champions league title, THW Kiel will have two chances to celebrate a title again.
On Wednesday THW will play in Göppingen. Karabatic & Co. only need one point to become German champions for the 14th time.
“We will win this match and then the disappointment will be a bit forgotten,” Nikola Karabatic said. Should Kiel lose, they would still have a chance to win the title in their last match against Wetzlar at home.
This is not the only topic to talk about in Kiel. The future of coach Noka Serdarusic is also discussed. Serdarusic said in a TV interview after the lost final that he hopes to get a chance to win the triple the next season, “my last season with Kiel”.
From this point on, there were discussions whether the very successful Serdarusic era would end in 2009. The manager of Kiel, Uwe Schwenker, tried to calm down the emotions:
“The only certanity is that Noka’s contract terminates in 2009. We didn’t speak about this so far as we have to concentrate on winning the German title on Wednesday. This is the only and only thing on the agenda at the moment.”
Serdarusic signed his currently valid contract in 2006 and he has been coaching in Kiel since 1993. During his time he made THW the most successful German handball club. Serdarusic won the German title ten times, the German cup five times, the EHF Cup three times and the Champions League once.
