Boesen and two Carléns in Flensburg

It could be a new milestone for SG Flensburg-Handewitt. After the team went out of the Champions League, the Northern German club put the emphasis on other sports matters. Flensburg announced the singning of left back Lasse Boesen (from TBV Lemgo), the great left-handed talent, Oscar Carlén (from Ystad IF) and the new assistant coach Per Carlén (from IFK Malmö).

“We will be even more Scandinavians with these newcomers,” said SG’s sports director, Anders Dahl-Nielsen, “and they will rejuvenate our team as well.”

The one who will get the average age lower will be Oscar Carlén, who signed a three-year contract.

“He is deemed to be the biggest handball talent of the world,” adds SG’s club manager, Fynn Holpert.

“Time will tell whether he would prove his reputation right and fill the large shoes of Marcin Lijewski.”

Though Oscar Carlén is only 19 years old, he has 23 caps with Sweden already and he was also there in the team at the European Championship. The young player arrives with a dream:

“When I was four, Ystad were Swedish champions and and the coach, Kent-Harry Andersson, played the guitar at the party after the victory. I want to live it again in Germany.”

There will be a chance to do so until 2010, as coach Kent-Harry Andersson has a contract in Flensburg until that date.

The contract of Per Carlén is also adjusted to this. The 47-year old world- and European Champion, who took part at four Olympic Games as player, will have a double task in Flensburg.

“With his great experience he will help Kent-Harry Andersson. The two know each other very well,” says Anders Dahl-Nielsen.

On the way from Wilhelmshaven (league game against Lemgo) to his home country, the Danish national player Lasse Boesen stopped at the German border. He is going to wear the SG jersey no. 33 until 2011.

“I was champion in Denmark, in Sweden. Only the German title is missing,” said the 28-year old European champion.
