Boesen joins Flensburg
German top team, SG Flensburg-Handewitt, are without any chance in the Champions League. However, the North Germans may find consolation in the fact that their team will be reinforced by a European Champion next season. And Flensburg are once again very close to qualify for the CL.
The Danish international, Lasse Boesen, has signed a three-year contract with Flensburg. This season, the 28-year old backcourt player, who played an important part in Denmark winning the European Championship in January, is currently playing for another Bundesliga club, TBV Lemgo. Boesen is on loan in Lemgo from Danish KIF Kolding.
Originally, he was planning to return to Kolding at the end of this season to serve his last season of his three-year contract with the Danes, but an attractive offer from Flensburg changed the situation.
Hoping to win titles
“After Lasse´s great performance at the EURO, we knew that it would be extremely difficult to keep him in our club. The offer from Flensburg was one that neither the player, nor we could refuse,” said KIF Kolding director Jens Boesen – the father of Lasse Boesen.
“Playing in Flensburg will be good for me and also for my wife and kids,” said Lasse Boesen, who still lives in Kolding with his family. It will be a big advantage for him that Flensburg is only 80 kms south from Kolding, while Lemgo is 460 kms away.
“Furthermore, it is an advantage that there are so many Danes in Flensburg already – and then I also hope to win some titles with the club,” added Boesen who will have no less than five Danish teammates in Flensburg next season.
Flensburg-Handewitt are also very satisfied with the deal. Boesen is right-handed, but can play in all backcourt positions.
“He is a versatile backcourt player who can also play right back for great parts of a game,” said Flensburg´s Danish manager, Anders Dahl-Nielsen, referring to the fact that the Polish international and right back Marcin Lijewski will be leaving for HSV Hamburg after the season.
