German duel for points and for prestige

The experts would not give a chance for Flensburg before Saturday’s away game in Hamburg in the Champions League.

Decisive moment: Yoon equalises at the end of the first gameThe group victory and semi-final qualification only has a theoretical possibility for SG. The only case when this would happen is that Flensburg would win their matches against Hamburg and Zagreb, Portland would beat RK Zagreb and make a draw with HSV. In this case all teams would finish with 6 points and the goal difference would decide.

Flensburg coach, Kent-Harry Andersson, does not even care about this theoretical game.

“We only have to give everything against Hamburg because of our fans,” he says. 600 fans will travel to the Elbe by train.

“We only focus on the German championship now,” says team manager Fynn Holpert who has no more CL dreams.

On Wednesday evening they clinched a 28:24 victory over TBV Lemgo. Flensburg came close to THW Kiel with the victory on top of the Bundesliga table.

HSV Hamburg have a legitimate hope that they would reach the Champions League semi-finals. With a victory against their German rivals their chances would improve.

The squad demonstrated their power on Tuesday against Wilhelmshavener HV with a 44:17 victory. This was the biggest victory in the history of the Bundesliga.

“We have to take self-confidence from this result for the Champions League,” said HSV coach, Martin Schwalb. “Of course it will be a different task against Flensburg.”

The Korean star of the team, Kyung-Shin Yoon, added:

“Only the points will be important against Flensburg.”
