Győr coach believes in “work therapy”

The players of Győri Audi ETO are facing immense task this weekend as they visit to Denmark. The girls of Győr want to preserve their unbeaten record and prove themselves after the disappointment at the World Championship. Eurohandball.com talks to coach of Győr, Csaba Konkoly.

Eurohandball.com: What physical and psychological state came the girls back from France?

Győr go for a surprise victoryCsaba Konkoly: Their performance had an impact on them for sure as they failed to meet the expectations. We tried to focus on the fact that there are still big tasks ahead in club competitions. We have to reach the best physical conditions possible by February and March. As I’m not a psychologist, I believe in “work therapy”: we have been working incessantly since the World Championship. I feel that my players do their very best for success.

Eurohandball.com: To what extent did Slagelse change since the first game?

Konkoly: Bulatovic, who left the club, still played at their last game and scored two goals. They still have Batinic and the new Louise Pedersen as left-handed players. I guess Pedersen was signed to allow Turey stay on the left side and in the left back position.

Eurohandball.com: What could be the key to an away success?

Konkoly: Slagelse is made up of high quality players, but I expect an outstanding performance from our players who are similarly strong, but focus on team play.

Regarding the World Championship, I can see that the girls want to prove that the players of Győr should not be ashamed after the tournament.

If we will be able to come back to defence with the same discipline as we did at the first game, than we can clinch a surprise victory. Though I think we will not be on top in fitness – we try to reach our maximum tactically and physically by February – I hope we can surprise Slagelse.
