MKB Veszprém said an early goodbye to the Champions League. Coach Lajos Mocsai summarises the season.
Veszprém: work and patience
Experienced coach of MKB Veszprém, Lajos Mocsai gives a summary to eurohandball.com on the CL season that ended soon for the team.
Eurohandball.com: After many successful and long seasons in the CL you say goodbye early. What do you think about your performance?
Lajos Mocsai: Though we prepared with great intensity and it was very important for us, we felt already after the draw that it would be difficult. We had to play against three teams of approximately similar strength. Our objective for this part of the season was to put the strategy and structure, and to continue rejuvenating the team. Veszprém was able to show spectacular, good handball these games for certain periods, but the young players lacked international routine that could have helped them in the close endgames.
Eurohandball.com: Did you see positive signs?
Lajos Mocsai: Yes, of course. I believe that the core of the young team can already be seen who can form a strong team together with the older players. There are a couple of older players who can still further improve.
Eurohandball.com: Were there negative developments?
Lajos Mocsai: The injury of Barna Putics was decisive. It was a severe blow for the team because he played well in the preparation phase. He can only join the work in January, but I can say that we are in a phase when we can already notice positive signs.
Eurohandball.com: What do you think can lead out of the tunnel?
Lajos Mocsai: I think that the team – especially the young players – have to endure psychological pressure in the endgame. We see the direction and we continue work that needs a lot of patience.
