Budapest Bank-FTC lost two games but keep focusing on their most important objective. Back player, Annamária Ilyés, talks to Eurohandball.com.
FTC not desperate
Despite the ten-goal home defeat against Valcea, the players of Ferencváros were not completely devastated after the game. Annamária Ilyés, recently signed backcourt player of the team, says that the goal difference does not reflect the real difference between the two sides.
Eurohandball.com: Do you think Valcea are such a good team or Ferencváros could not play according to plans?
Annamária Ilyés: We were able to keep pace with the Romanians in the first half and Valcea had only a two-goal lead for the break. Then something happened: we may have got tired and the physically perfect Romanian team played much quicker. They could do everything that they could not in the first half. I feel that though Valcea are a good team, the 10 goals are too much and we could have stayed closer.
Eurohandball.com: Viborg are coming this weekend. I guess it will not be easier…
Ilyés: They are just as strong as Valcea are. We have to build on the 30-40 minutes of good performance that we showed this weekend. I hope we can compete with the Danes.
Eurohandball.com: However, these two teams are not the greatest rivals if you aim for the third place that qualifies to the Cup Winners’ Cup.
Ilyés: We think alike. Unfortunately we lost in Podgorica, though we had a chance to win till the end. We try to take one or two points from Viborg to secure our third place. If this would not happen, the success would depend on the home game against Buducnost and the goal difference of our victory if they will not be able to cause a surprise somewhere.
Eurohandball.com: How do you prepare for Sunday?
Ilyés: Monday was a rest day, but we start again on Tuesday. We watch videos and work with the physiotherapist. We will play a Hungarian Cup game on Wednesday in Vasvár and we continue to analyse Viborg on Thursday. We try to give our best on Wednesday and we will practise fast breaks that were not so successful against Valcea. However, Vasvár will hardly be as strong as Viborg.
