Győr win against Slagelse to take revenge for last year's semi-final. The Hungarians had a more experienced team and learnt from last year.

Experience wins

Group A started on Saturday in the Women’s CL. Győri Audi ETO KC hosted Slagelse in Hungary. The last time the two sides met was in the semi-final of last season when the latter winner, Slagelse won both encounters. This time Győr won comfortably after a close first half.

It was a tough game, especially in the first halfThe Hungarians calmed down quicker at the beginning. Pálinger started to save well and the long-range shots of CL debutant Tomori were effective (6-2 in the 9th minute). This period saw a tough match and Győr could keep their 3-4 goals advantage with a good performance from Pálinger.

The hosts apparently learnt from the matches played last season and they paid more attention to the wingers of the opponents. Slagelse had to take many forced shots, and their only strength was their good defending. The last minutes were better for Slagelse and it was 12-11 for Győr at halftime.

One-sided second half

Turey equalised once again after 2-2 just after the break. The goals of Tomori and Bradeanu gave back Győr the lead and it was 16-12 in the 39th minute already. The aggressive defending of Slagelse DT was not profitable: the Danes received many two-minute suspensions.

Dokic came in for the second half and she was excellent in defence and attack as well. She scored to make it 20-12. Slagelse tried with their second goalkeeper, but Friis was not better than Leganger. In the last ten minutes the teams seemed to be tired and there were many lost balls on both sides. Leganger came back for the last five minutes, but the great shots of Görbicz and Mravíková were too much for her. The last minutes brought many unforced errors and a 24-17 home victory.

Győr will travel to Spanish Ribarroja next week, while Slagelse will host Podravka Koprivnica.
