The Danish club solves two problems at once: the new player will replace the injured Varzaru and Kristine Lunde.
Viborg sign Bjørndalen from Larvik
Danish Champions League team Viborg HK signed a left-handed backcourt player and winger, Ida Bjørndalen, from another CL club, Larvik HK.
The contract with the 24-year old player, who can play on the right back, winger and playmaker as well, will be valid until the summer of 2010.
The signing of the contract was officially announced Tuesday morning. Bjørndalen will be eligible to play in the Champions League group stage where Viborg are going to play their first match next Sunday in Romania against CS Oltchim Valcea.
Solving a series of problems
“Ida is strong in right back as well as in right wing. She can play in the middle too as a playmaker. She has great shots from long range and she is also good at breaking through the opponents’ defence,” said Viborg’s sports director, Michael Hansen. The club solves a a series of problems with Ida Bjørndalen. She can replace two injured players, Romanian right winger Christina Varzaru and Norwegian playmaker Kristine Lunde.
“We had a very good cooperation with Larvik who have been extremely helpful in this matter. We could find a solution good for all parties,” Michael Hansen added.
Getting started
Ida Bjørndalen is looking forward to the start in her new club. “This is really exciting for me, and I’m really keen on starting with my new team. It was a surprise to me that Viborg wanted me at all. This is a great opportunity for me and a huge challenge that I’m really looking forward to,” said Bjørndalen who started trainings with her new team on Tuesday.
