Harvest of goals in Gudme

810 spectators in Gudme-Hallen on the Danish island of Funen have seen 76 goals on Sunday afternoon. GOG Svendborg TGI defeated Slovakian champions Tatran Presov 42-32 in Group D.

Hansen was match winner with 12 goalsGOG were dominating most of the match and the Danish champions could even allow some rest for Jacob Larsen. The pivot and defence specialist had a light injury and he was on the bench for the entire 60 minutes.

The home team were leading from the start, and from 4-1 and 5-2 the lead was extended to 10-4, 13-6 and 15-7. Tatran Petrov managed to reduce the gap to four goals at 15-11 after a team time out and due to some lack of concentration of the GOG team. The Danes soon managed to tighten the grip and increase the lead again to be up 22-16 at half time.

Continuous dominance

In the second half Presov managed to come back to four goals again at 23-19 and 29-25, but that was the closest the Slovak team could get. The Danes took back the control and a couple of times the home team were leading by 11 goals before finally winning by 10.

“Our 28-28 away draw against Portland San Antonio gave us a lot of self-confidence after quite a poor start in the domestic league,” explained GOG winger, Lasse Svan Hansen. He was top scorer with 12 goals – elegant goals from the right wing position as well as a number of goals from counter attacks.

“We got the two points we needed, and even though our defence was a little messy at times, I think we played our best attacking game so far this season. It was important for us to win so easily over a team, which is probably the best in the group after Portland San Antonio and us,” the 24-year old winger added.

GOG leading the group

While Lasse Svan Hansen scored 12 goals for GOG, Radoslav Kozlov was the most prolific Tatran Presov player with 7 goals.

GOG are now on the top of Group D with a better goal difference than Portland San Antonio. Both teams have 3 points after 2 matches.

The group will continue on Wednesday when Portland San Antonio will host Tatran Presov. GOG will wait until Saturday to play away against Austrian champions, A1 Bregenz.
