After a 12-goal victory in Slovenia, the Hungarian champions are aiming at the top in their group. Manager and former player, Richárd Mezei, talks to Eurohandball.com
Szeged: going for top spot
Szeged had much easier draw for the first group phase than MKB Veszprém. The Hungarian team started with a 12-goal victory in Slovenia against RK Gorenje Velenje. Recently retired Richárd Mezei, Member of Board at the club, talks to Eurohandball.com.
Eurohandball.com: What changes have been made in the team and what is the form of the squad now?
Richárd Mezei: The roster has gone through many changes. Five players arrived: Ghionea, Petrea and Stamate from Romania, the Slovenian Zvizej and the Montenegrin Osmajic. On the other hand, Ferenc Ilyés signed for Veszprém, while I retired.
Ghionea and Zvizej are good handballers of international fame. Osmajic is a real defence specialist. We hope that they will be useful for the club. We could practice at the domestic league games so far, our attack is getting better, but we still have to improve in defence. I think the difficulties come from not being used to play next to each other.
Eurohandball.com: Bosna Sarajevo will arrive on Sunday. What do you expect from the team?
Richárd Mezei: We have the advantage of the home court and we already won easily away. I hope that the players will be focused, play with serenity and the victory will give them more power for the upcoming games. The most important is to play with humility as they did in Slovenia. Our objective is the top spot and we must not make a mistake at home.
