Yoon brings Hamburg first victory

A perfect start for HSV Handball Hamburg in the Champions League: the German runner-up won their first CL match ever of against Danish runner-up, Viborg HK. The result was 35:26 (20:14).

Hens had a rest in the second half, but he was very active before the break“I’m so glad about this start. We had a great defence with a good goalkeeper Per, Sandström – this was the key to the victory. Despite we were not so strong in second half, we gained a clear victory,” said HSV coach, Martin Schwalb, after the match.

It was the South Korean international, Kyung Shin-Yoon, who scored the first for HSV in the “king’s class”. It was 1:1 then after Viborg leading 1:0. This was the last time the Danish team was in front. 2,500 spectators were celebrating a quick and strong HSV performance until the halftime whistle.

Especially Hans Lindbergh, the former Viborg player, was highly motivated but only until the 13th minute. He had to be substituted due to an injury. From this point on, Yoon scored whenever he wanted (8 goals in the game). After the 20:14 in 30 minutes, HSV could save their energy for Sunday’s top Bundesliga match against Flensburg.

“We did not play so well in the second half as we are able to, but as we missed all our right-wing players for more than 50 minutes, it was enough,” said Schwalb.

Sören Hildebrand, Viborg’s coach, was disappointed: “I’m never happy to lose, but we never had a chance this match. We fought, but Hamburg was better.”

Also Morten Bjerre, former HSV player, had the same opinion:

“The pressure was too big, but we have to realise, that we have a completely new team.”

Viborg’s top scorer was Aagard with six goals – but the “Danish Dynamite” did not explode as Hamburg was to strong.
