Györ: Kálmán Róth Resigns, Konkoly takes over

Róth shows that something goes wrongThe announcement came as a surprise to many. Róth still talked about winning the Hungarian Championship with the team in a television interview on Friday – there was no sign of crisis. Though the team won the Anita Kulcsár Memorial Tournament, the coach did not travel with the players for the final that Győr won with the assistant coach, Csaba Konkoly, on the bench.

The reason of Róth’s absence was an alleged conflict between him and the players and the conflict could not be resolved any more: Kálmán Róth handed in his resignation. He is leaving the club with a "bitter aftertaste" - he admitted to www.handball.hu.

Words of farewell

“I want to thank all real ETO fans for the affection and support that I got together with the team. I will never forget the moments when they were singing the national anthem before the international games and the moments we lived after victories. I do hope that the supporters will live more successes because they deserve it,” wrote Róth in his statement on the official website of the club.

Konkoly takes over

New coach, Csaba Konkoly

The club appoints Csaba Konkoly, former assistant coach, to take over the former coache' s responsibilities. The 37-year old coach, who is also coach of the Hungarian youth national team, released a brief statement on the club's website:

"I did not want to become head coach like this, but I will do my best to take this chance. When I was offered the bench, Lajos Mocsai and Gyula Zsiga came to my mind. They were also very young when they took great teams over and they could make good results right away. We must take the league title back and we will do everything for this. Knowing the opponents, I believe we can succeed."
