Viborg to Find Lunde’s Replacement

Danish Champions League team, Viborg HK, have to look for a replacement of playmaker, Kristine “Kikki” Lunde. The Norwegian player is going to be sidelined for at least the first half of the coming season due to a shoulder injury.

Viborg were hoping to sign another Norwegian, the 22-year old Gøril Snorroeggen (pictured right) Byåsen. However, the talented playmaker has decided to turn down the Danish offer.

Snorroeggen wants to study and stay in Trondheim“Several things influenced my decision, but the most important was the fact that I have been admitted to the University of Trondheim. I’m going to study medicine. If I would move to Denmark, I should postpone my studies for some years,” Gøril Snorroeggen told Norwegian Internet magazine, Nettavisen.

Snorroeggen must play qualification matches to reach the first group stage of Champions league with Byasen, while Viborg are already qualified.

No panic

Gøril Snorroeggen’s answer has not caused panic in Viborg. “We are not going to sign a new player just to sign someone. The one we sign must be better than the ones already at the team,” Viborg HK’s sports director, Michael Hansen, told Danish radio station Radio Midt og Vest.

Kristine Lunde, who arrived to Viborg from Aalborg after last season, has undergone surgery for a long-lasting shoulder injury. Lunde will have to stop at least until new-year. Viborg have also signed her twin sister, goalkeeper Katrine Lunde, as well as Serbian Bojana Popovic (considered the world’s best handballer by many), and German international players, Nora Reiche and Anja Althaus.
