Buligan Honoured in Timisoara
Alesandru Buligan is one of the greatest goalkeepers in the history of handball and he is also a very popular personality in Romania. The 47-year old Buligan was active until the age of 42, winning a Spanish League.
“Buli” is the assistant coach of Javier Cabanas in Portland and this week he will return home to his home country for a friendly tournament. The city of Timisoara will honour Buligan and former Romanian national players, such as Folkes Alexandru and Roland Gunesh, will join him. They all belong to the most glorious history of Romanian hanbdall.
There will be good teams to play against Portland and the local side, Timisoara, as Partizan Beograd and Hungarian Pick Szeged also take part.
Friends and memories
The upcoming days will be very special for “Buli”:
“Timisoara was the club that gave me the chance to play in the Romanian first division. It will be unforgettable for me. It will remind me of many great moments because we will play in the same sports hall where I also used to play. I’m really happy that people remember me. I can be proud of being a part of the history of this club. It will be fantastic to meet Ronald Gunesh again. He was my “sport father”. He was the captain when I was a young player.”
Buligan joined Timisoara at the age of 17 and went to Spain, to Arrate, at the age of 27. Now he returns with Portland, a great European club. “San Antonio are very popular in Romania. The Asobal League and Champions League matches are usually broadcast on TV.”
